Medical EmergenciesPlease call 112 to get help in the case of a potentially life-threatening emergency that requires immediate medical attention. For less severe cases of illness or injury that you may need a doctor for during the night, on weekday evenings, or at any time on weekends or public holidays, you must call the doctor on standby duty (Ärztlicher Bereitschafsdienst). In all of Germany, the doctor on standby can be reached at 116 117. When you call this standby emergency doctor service, the on-duty doctor will ask you questions to help him/her assess your illness or injury. Based on the answers you give, the standby doctor will then decide whether you should see your general practitioner the next day, whether a doctor should visit you at home, or whether you should go to the emergency doctor’s surgery or to the hospital emergency room.
